HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ - The district's traditional Orange and Black was replaced for just one day as the teachers and staff in Hasbrouck Heights had a Pink Out for breast cancer on Tuesday.

Faculty, staff, and administrators were encouraged to wear pink and jeans in exchange for a $5.00 donation.  Donations were collected for the American Cancer Society in support of the Real Kids Wear Pink campaign. All students in grades Kindergarten through 12 were encouraged to wear pink; however, they were not required to make a donation.

In late September, Amanda McCrimlisk, the Community Development Manager of the local American Cancer Society, had reached out to Superintendent of Schools Dr. Matthew Helfant to see if the district would be willing to participate in their "Real Kids Wear Pink Campaign."  Once the campaign was discussed collectively by the administrative team, it became an immediate yes.

"Support for breast cancer awareness and research is paramount," said Joe Colangelo, Lincoln Elementary School principal. "With about one in eight women developing breast cancer in their lifetime, it's something that hits home for each of us.  We felt it necessary as a district to champion this cause."
