HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ -- Monday, January 21 is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. It has also become known as a Day of Service in the United States.
TAPinto Hasbrouck Heights/Wood-Ridge/Teterboro wants to hear about your efforts on this year's Day of Service. Is your company, organization, youth group, department, family, church, or friends participating in a service project for the day? Send a photo (or two) and tell us about it. Email email@example.com.
Legislation signed in 1983 marked the birthday of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as a federal holiday. In 1994, Congress designated the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday as a national day of service and charged the Corporation for National and Community Service with leading this effort, according to that organization's website. Each year, on the third Monday in January, the MLK Day of Service is observed as a "day on, not a day off."
