HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ - Hasbrouck Heights Recreation Director and High School track coach Rob Brady was honored Tuesday Night by Mayor Jack DeLorenzo and the town council on his accomplishments over the past 30 years in Hasbrouck Heights.

Brady has been a coach at Hasbrouck Heights for 30 years, spending 26 as the head coach of the boys' and girls' track teams. He is also the town's Director of Recreation.

“I know,” said DeLorenzo, “from being here and seeing my kids go through the program, the amount of hours he puts into it, whether it be track or recreation. I know how dedicated he is, I know how much hard work he puts in, I know the sacrifices his family makes for him being gone, those track meets are long, those recreation wrestling meets are long days.

“If you sit in the stands at a track meet and hear people ask “How does a Group 1 program get 170 people on the track team?” Delorenzo said.  “It is because he includes everybody. Every kid who wants to come out, he finds something for them to do.”

It is not just all about the championships you win,” DeLorenzo concluded. “But for everything you do for the young people of our community.”

“He treats all the kids the same way,” said Councilman Ron Kistner. “And he has had some really talented kids come through the program. But he doesn’t treat them differently than anyone else. Everyone is treated the same.

“He teaches them not only about how to be champions,” Kistner said. “But how to be good people.”

“I want to thank my wife, for putting up with all the craziness, and my kids, for sharing me with all the other kids in Heights,” Brady said. “I have been fortunate enough to coach a lot of great kids in this town, they buy into the program, they want to be coached.  I have found that kids, even in the recreation program, want to be coached, kids want to be a part of something.“

“I also have to thank my assistant coaches, and all the people who help me coach,” Brady said. "Track is like a three-ring circus, there is no way I am doing this by myself. I have great assistant coaches that are lifelong friends, who have helped with all the success.

“We have the support of the school, the Board of Education throughout the years, the school administrators.  We have a great situation here in Heights, which is why so many of our sports programs are so successful.”

Brady’s track teams have been among the elite in Bergen County throughout his tenure as coach.  He has been honored by North Jersey Media as the Track Coach of the Decade for the period 2010 to 2019, having won a combined 93 Boys and Girls Indoor and Outdoor Track Championships at the League, County and State level.
