WOOD-RIDGE, NJ - The Wood-Ridge Borough Council honored a Wood-Ridge Little League team at the beginning of their regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday evening at Wood-Ridge Borough Hall.
The Council honored the 8-year old Wood-Ridge All-Star team, which in July became the first team from Wood-Ridge to ever win the Lyndhurst Tournament, winning seven games before advancing to the championship series against Hasbrouck Heights. Wood-Ridge captured the title with a win in the second game of the playoff, becoming the first team in Wood-Ridge history to win the tournament.
Councilman Phil Romero, who is also the President of the Wood-Ridge/Moonachie Little League, speaking in his President’s role, thanked the team, for finally capturing the championship.
“It was a bucket list item for me,” Romero stated. “We had a championship in every age bracket except 8-year olds. Now we do.”
Romero also noted that the previous best finish in the tournament was a second place finish, with a team coached by Mayor Paul Sarlo.
The team was managed by Vinny LaRosa, and assisted by Jin Chon, Dave Cilento, Dan Eckert, and Sal Esposito.,
