The “women-focused” event will be held on Saturday, September 29 from 10-4 p.m. at Passaic County Technical Institute in Wayne.  The Passaic County Department of Health and Board of Chosen Freeholders partnered with Komen North Jersey to sponsor the event.

“Our partnership with Komen North Jersey is focused on providing free access to health screenings and encouraging women and their families to embrace a healthy lifestyle,” Passaic County Health Officer Charlene W. Gungil said in a press release. “We are particularly concerned about an increase in the incidence of breast cancer among younger residents of our county, and we’re working to change that trend. We know that there are many factors that can help lower the risk of breast cancer and other diseases. By partnering with like-minded organizations like Komen, we can provide better access to information and resources that can help detect these diseases early and refer to treatment, those who need it. It’s all about saving lives in our communities.”

New York radio host, publisher, motivational speaker and author Joan Herrmann will be the Program Emcee and guest speaker, according to the event’s press release.

According to Komen North Jersey, highlights of the 2018 Women’s Wellness Expo include free health screenings and services for clinical breast exams, glucose, blood pressure, cholesterol, BMI, vision, dental/ oral, foot screenings, cardiovascular testing, genetic testing, HIV testing and BCAT cognitive screening. There will also be various seminars on breast cancer, health insurance and living a healthy life.

“Living a healthy lifestyle is important to breast health and early detection is essential to a positive outcome not only for breast cancer, but for so many other critical health issues,” Komen North Jersey’s Executive Director Kelly E. Nagle said. “The Women’s Wellness Expo in Passaic County will go beyond raising awareness to facilitate access to care for everyone in our communities—insured or uninsured, provide health education and advocate for women to take action with their health. We are grateful to the Passaic Department of Health and all of our many generous sponsors who are helping us to save lives here in New Jersey.”
