HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ - A somber ceremony honoring deceased veterans was held at the Hasbrouck Heights VFW Friday night.

A Hero's Welcome North New Jersey, under the direction of Rose Pagan, and Hasbrouck Heights VFW Post 4591 held its first Ribbon for Veterans.

Small tea lights lit the way to the podium in the Post's main room. Three poinsettias were each framed by two pillar candles where the three wreaths with long red ribbons were placed.

Susan Krause and Sue DeJessa, of AHW NNJ, took turns announcing names of deceased veterans whose name and branch of service had been embossed on a white ribbon. As each name was called, a family member attached the ribbon to one of the wreaths. At the end of the evening, 200 white ribbons adorned the three wreaths.

The ceremony lasted approximately an hour. Last year the event was held in conjunction with Wreaths Across America at Rahway National Cemetery.
