WOOD-RIDGE, NJ  -- Santa Claus made a brief stopover at the Wood-Ridge Fire Department on Saturday afternoon, checking in on all the borough's girls and boys before his return on Christmas Eve.

He met with upwards of 70 children, listening to their gift requests, visiting with them, and giving them chocolate candy and a fireman's hat. What are the most popular gifts asked for this year? For boys, Nintendo. And for girls, dolls.

After a brief rest and lunch with Wood-Ridge's bravest, Santa took his place atop one of the fire trucks fitted with a special cab just for Santa and reindeer. He then headed out to make the rounds throughout the town, starting first at Wesmont Station, traveling 26 miles, and visiting different streets before heading back to the North Pole to prepare for his return trip on Christmas Eve.
