WOOD-RIDGE, NJ - Wood-Ridge Memorial Foundation President Paul Calocino announced the names of the 2020 Honorees that will be recognized at the annual dinner dance on Friday, March 13, 2020.
Bonnie Campagna – A teacher at the Catherine E. Doyle School since 2002 has been involved with the community and school system in a variety of ways. She has been active with the PTA in a wide range of duties, including multiple years as president, chairing fund-raising activities and as an Executive Board member. She is currently the liaison between the teachers and the PTA. Bonnie was active with the Girl scout program and with the Wood-Ridge Recreation Cheerleading program for 8 years. Bonnie and her husband Vinny and daughter Ariana have lived in Wood-Ridge for 17 years.
Elizabeth Ferry - A life long resident of Wood-Ridge she graduated Wood-Ridge High School as Salutatorian in 1991 and was the recipient of a Memorial Foundation award. She continued her education and received her BS degree from Stevens Institute of Technology in 2000. After several years in the work force she began her first love and calling to help others. She received her Paramedic Certification from Hudson Community College/Jersey City Medical Center in 2016. During this time she was a substitute teacher at WRHS as well as a cook at the Girl scout Camp and at MetLife Stadium in the safety services area. She began her volunteer career with the Wood-Ridge EMS and Fire Department in 1994. She served as EMS Captain in 2000-01 and rose through the ranks in the Fire Department, attaining the rank of Chief in 2019. She recently celebrated 25 years with the department. She assisted her family with the raising of over 100 foster children which brought great satisfaction in how they enriched her life. She is currently employed with University Hospital in Newark as a Paramedic.
Debra Greenaway – An active member of the community since 1997, when she and her husband Larry moved to the community and raised their two sons Lawrence and Brandon. Debra was no stranger to Wood-Ridge having grown up in the borough. She has served terms as president of the Board of Health and is still a member of that Board. Her involvement with multiple committees within the Borough including the PTA, Mayor Sarlo’s 5K race, Project Graduation and many others that all benefited the community. She was hired 8 years ago as administrative assistant to the High School principal. She has excelled in that position and has continually demonstrated that this is not just a job, but a responsibility she has to the High School Students that she helps every day.
Melanie Rose-Rella – Having grown up in Moonachie, Melanie is a lifelong resident of the area. She graduated WRHS in 1995 and married her high school sweetheart Dan Rella in 2004. They have 3 children Daniel, Angelina and Frankie, and reside in Wood-Ridge. Melanie is an 18 year employee of the District as a physical education and health teacher. At various times she has been assigned to all of the schools in the district and has come in contact with and has had a positive influence on hundreds of our students. Melanie was chosen as Teacher of the Year in 2016. Besides her teaching duties, she has coached freshman/JV softball and has served as a class advisor. She has been part of the Wood-Ridge Recreation cheerleading and softball programs. Currently, she is a coordinator of the American Heart Association’s Heart Challenge.
Andrea and Ed Marino – Both are life long residents of the Borough and have continued to serve our residents and students in many ways. Married in 1994 they and their two children, Andrew and Madylin, all attended Wood-Ridge High School. Andrea has been a Physical Education and Health Teacher for the past 6 years. She is the Head Volleyball and Softball Coach and she recently earned her 500th win in volleyball. She serves on the Bergen County Women’s Coaching Committee, the Donna Ricker Day program and is a coach with the WR Recreation Softball Program.
Ed is a Sales and Marketing Director/Manager for Column Technologies in NYC. He has served as a Councilman for the past 10 years. He has served on the Finance, Planning and Zoning Boards, Chairman of Municipal Shared Services and the Keep Wood-Ridge Beautiful Committees. He is Chairman of the Mayor’s 5K run which has raised thousands of dollars for Cystic Fibrosis and Tomorrow’s Children’s Fund. He is also very involved with the WR Recreation Program as a Coach/manager with the Soccer, Basketball, and Softball Teams.
All of the proceeds raised from this event will be used to fund the anticipated 18 awards totaling over $40,000.00 in June.
The dinner will be held at The Fiesta, and will include a full course dinner with beer wine and soda included. Entertainment will be provided by the Alan Quinn band.
