HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ -- The Hasbrouck Heights Board of Health released the results of the 2019 annual Dog Census.
According to Board of Health Secretary and Registrar of Vital Statistics Laura French, there are 1,216 licensed dogs in the borough. The census takers reported 126 unlicensed dogs. Each dog owner received a letter along with a dog license application. It explained the the borough's ordinance and the importance of rabies immunization.
The census was conducted from Monday, June 24 through Friday, July 19. Ten of the Hasbrouck Heights crossing guards conducted the door-to-door tally, from 4:30 pm to 8 pm, Monday to Friday.
The annual Dog Census is required by the State of New Jersey, which mandates every home, apartment, and business be visited.
