TRENTON, NJ - Governor Phil Murphy announced another significant jump in both positive cases of novel coronavirus and deaths at his Wednesday press conference along with and state officials.

There are 3,649 new cases with 91 new deaths. Statewide, there are 22,255 positive cases and 355 deaths in total as of Tuesday. The Governor announced Bergen County continues to lead in cases with 3,494, having 338 new cases.

"As the confirmed cases of COVID-19 are increasing in our state, we're seeing an increasing demand on our healthcare system," said Judith Persichilli, Commissioner of the Department of Health. "We predicted a statewide surge during the second week of April."

"It looks like the surge is beginning in the northern part of the state," said Persichilli. She noted that Tuesday night seven hospitals in the northern part of the state were on "Divert" status, some due to overcrowding in the emergency room, some due to overall high census.

According to Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco, the county now has a total of 3,708 presumptive positive cases impacting all 70 municipalities in the county, and 75 total deaths. He noted that numbers may vary due to varied reporting times from both the State and local municipalities; as well as pending case verifications and/or county attribution by NJDOH. (state numbers are listed as of 8 a.m.)

Locally, Hasbrouck Heights has 50 cases, Wood-Ridge 32, and Teterboro 1 case. Teaneck continues to be the town with the most cases with 373, as of Wednesday.
