HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ -  Hasbrouck Heights Police Chief Michael Colaneri Sr. and Councilman Ron Kistner unveiled the third set of Hasbrouck Heights Police "baseball cards" at a ceremony Tuesday evening in the training/meeting room of the Hasbrouck Heights Police Department.

The cards are given to officers to give to children to collect. Children are required to go up to the officer and ask for the cards themselves, not have a parent, grandparent or older sibling do it for them.  The idea is that by having the children interact with the officers, they will develop a positive relationship with the police force.

To further encourage the kids to ask for the cards, there is an incentive program for everyone who collects a complete set, they get to take a prize from the Police Department's Prize bin.

This is the third time that the HHPD has produced the cards, the first coming in 1999, an idea, according to Chief Colaneri, of Kistner's.  When he initially heard it, Colaneri liked the idea, but initially hesitated, citing the costs.

Kistner stated  “Let me take care of that" Colaneri said.  Kistner then went to local businesses and solicited donations to cover the costs, which is still done today.  Businesses can sponsor individual officers cards.

"I want to thank all the sponsors," said Kistner, who spearheaded the effort once again. "Without them, we can not get this done. This is a group of people who always comes through for us whenever we reach out to them for something that helps our community."

Kistner also praised iDesign Printing and Copy Center for the job they did in printing the cards.

"They cards look great," Kistner told owner Steve Feuss.
