HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ -- The Hasbrouck Heights Police Department doubled the amount of medicines collected from a year ago at  “Operation Take Back New Jersey” event on Saturday, April 27.

This year the department collected 315 pounds of unwanted, unused, or expired medications, according to Detective Sergeant Alan Baker. Last year they collected 140 pounds.

All collected drugs are disposed of at the DEA Covanta Energy-from-Waste facilities located throughout the state. They are converted into kilowatt/hours of electricity, said Baker.
