HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ -- Hasbrouck Heights Police Department released the details on a series of unrelated arrests in the Borough.
Detective Bradley Dussault and Patrolman Michael Renna were in a marked police car when they observed a silver Nissan Maxima with heavily tinted windows on Friday, April 5 at 11:46am , according to Detective Lieutenant Michael Colaneri, Jr. The officers stopped the car at Terrace Avenue and Lincoln Avenue, and observed the driver trying to quickly conceal metal object between his sock and shoe. Officers requested the driver, Christopher Colon, 23, of Paramus, NJ, get out of the car. They discovered an e-cigarette and THC oil. Colon was arrested for drug paraphrenalia, possession of THC oil, and received a summons for tinted windows.
Detective Sergeant John Behr and Patrolman Kevin Condal were checking the parking lots at the Hilton Hotel on Terrace Avenue on Friday, April 5 at 8:46pm, and noticed a car with heavy tinted windows exit the lot and run a red light. They stopped car driven by Krista Acosta, 26, of Passaic, NJ, at Charleton Avenue and Terrace Avenue Officers noticed the strong odor of marijuna. Acosta said her friends may have smoked pot in her car in the past. A search of the car turned up looked to be marijuana and a silver grinder. She was charged and arrest for drug paraphrenalia, possession of marijuana and a vehicle summons for the tinted windows.
Detective Bradley Dussault and Patrolman Michael Renna were patroling parking lots and observed a silver vehicle parked in the Shell station on Route 17 South with two occupants in the backseat on Saturday, April 6, at 8:06am. As the officers approached the car, a male quickly excited the car. When asked why they were in the backseat, he said they were sleeping and tired from being out late. A search of the car turned up a woman's black purse with paper folds of suspected, heroin, a glassine baggie of MDMA (a form of Ecstacy), cocaine, and two metal pipes. The female passenger, Catherine Torres, 25. of Paterson, NJ, was arrested and charged with possession of heroin, cocaine, MDMA, and drug paraphrenalia. Sergeant Daniel Kroncke and Patrolman John Cambridge provided back-up.
Detective Sergeant John Behr and Patrolman Kevin Condal were on patrol Saturday at 10:25pm when they noticed a car parked in the far corner of parking lot beind the Hilton Hotel in the borough. Erwin Hampton, 59, of Newark, said he had taken a wrongt turn to the racetrack. The officers noticed the smell of raw marijuana coming from the car, two bottles of wine (one opened, and one not) and a plastic baggie of marijuana. Hampton was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and three traffic summons.
On Sunday, April 7 at 2:01am, Detective Sergeant John Behr and Patrolman Chris Connors noted Thomas Kerrigan, 66, of Saddle Brook, driving at a high rate of speed south on the Boulevard near MacArthur Avenue. The car drove up onto the curb striking a crossing signal at Baldwin Avenue and the Boulevard. Kerrigan was administered a field sobriety test and taken to headquarters where he tested .17 BAC, blood alcohol content, on a breath test. He was charged and arrested for DWI and given two summons. Officers Sean Woodbridge, Kevin Condal, Michael DeSimone, and Joe Olivo assisted.
Hasbrouck Heights Police responded to a call on Industrial Avnenue behind Teterboro Airport where a BMW was resting up against a fence on April 7 at 3:40am. Officers from Moonachie Police Department and Port Authorty Police wer already on scene when Sergeant John Behr, Officers Condal, Woodbridge and Connors arrived. The driver, Gazmend Kaba, 37, of Moonachie, NJ, attempted to instigate officers, threatened to take their guns and shoot them. He was given a breath test which registered .10. He was arrested for DWI and making terroristic threats to officers.
Later Sunday at 10:12pm Sergeant Behr and Patrolman Joe Olivo pulled over a car with three occupants heading north of the Boulevard with cracked rear taillights. The officers detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A pat down of Carlos Rosado, 44, from Brooklyn, NY, a passenger in the back seat turned up marijuana and rolling papers. He was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphrenalia. The car's operator was charged with vehicle summons.
