WOOD-RIDGE, NJ --  An observant store manger led to the arrest of one man and two women on charges of shoplifting and drug possession at the CVS in the borough on Thursday, April 4.

According to Wood-Ridge Police Department Detective Sergeant Joseph Biamonte, Jr., two individuals, later identified as Anthony Samuels and Temeshia Gumby from Brooklyn, NY,  entered the CVS Pharmacy located at 295 Valley Boulevard and began to fill three large bags with various types of over-the-counter medications.  An alert store manager observed the shoplifting and notified the Wood-Ridge Police Department immediately as the suspects were filling the bags and eventually exited the store. 

Sergeant Thomas Battaglia and Sergeant Joseph Rutigliano, Jr. observed the two suspects exit the store and walk south on Valley Boulevard with the three large bags filled with merchandise. Battaglia and Rutigliano were able to stop them as they attempted to flee toward the getaway vehicle parked on Innes Road, a Chevy Equinox with Florida registration driven by Zade Williams also from Brooklyn, NY.

Gumby and Samuels were placed under arrest for Shoplifting a total of $1,821.22 in merchandise.  Samuels was charged with possession of marijuana, shoplifting and conspiracy to commit, Williams was charged with shoplifting, conspiracy as well as having a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.  Gumby was charged with shoplifting and conspiracy to commit. Sergeant Domenick D’Amico and Police Officer Anthony Rosillo from the Hasbrouck Heights Police Department assisted the Wood-Ridge Police in the arrests of the three suspects, as well as the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department. 

All parties were charged on a summons and released pending a court date at Central Judiciary Court in Bergen County.  

The Wood-Ridge Police Department reminds the public that all persons arrested are innocent until to proven guilty by a court of law.
