ELMWOOD PARK, NJ -- Members of both the Wood-Ridge and Hasbrouck Heights Fire Departments provided mutual aid to their Elmwood Park counterparts in battling the multi-alarm fire at the Marcal paper plant on Wednesday night.
"I am never surprised by the effort and commitment of the Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department," said Ron Kistner, Hasbrouck Heights Fire Commissioner. "I was so relieved when I received a text message from Chief Angelo Roccamo that all our guys were back around 2:30 AM this morning (Thursday.) I felt like a parent waiting for their child to come home."
Hasbrouck Heights was represented by Miguel Gonzalez, Bill Raimondo, Zack Link, Justin Watrel, Jeff Rubino, Nick Coviello, Andrew Cupo, John Ruff, Jessie Minell, Christina Fernandez, Kevin Todd, Joe Taylor, Mike Ratkowski, Scott Raimondo, Bernie Valenti, Charlie Hesse, Assistant Chief Dave Gumbreck, and Assistant Chief Tom Moots.
Wood-Ridge Fire Department also provided manpower and equipment to the blaze that saw fire responders from multiple counties. Truck 904 and Rescue 903 spent 13 hours in Elmwood Park on Wednesday. Thursday night Truck 901 returned to the paper plant to assist firefighters on the scene in putting out the remaining small fires on the site.
(Editor's Note: TAPinto reached out to the Wood-Ridge Fire Department for the list of firefighters who assisted with the Marcal fire. We will update the article with that and a comment from Chief Elizabeth Ferry.)
