HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ -- Parishioners brought their pets to Corpus Christi Church on Friday October 4, for the annual Blessing of the Animals. The day commemorates St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and ecology.
Father Gabriel Perdomo read a passage from Scripture and gave a blessing.
Said to have founded the Franciscan order, St. Francis became associated with patronage of animals and the natural environment. He lived from 1181 to 1226.
