HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ -- Elementary school students were honored at the March meeting of the Hasbrouck Heights Board of Education in Kiefer Auditorium. Students on the Jump Rope Team and Trep$ Club were recognized for recent achievements.
Lincoln Elementary School Principal Joseph Colangelo spoke about the jump rope team, comprised of third, fourth and fifth graders. He thanked the Board for honoring the students, each of which received a Certificate of Achievement.
"I would like to especially thank Mr. (Michael Cebulla, our coach, for our jump rope teams. We have two," said Colangelo. "One of our parent chaperones came back from our most recent trip and said she was just so happy to see the genuine connection and the genuine relationships he had with his jump ropers, or players. And that she was really inspired by their relationship. I've very proud of him."
He then read a message from a principal in Pequannock where the team had performed to kick off the annual Jump Rope for Heart campaign. That school's principal noted "...they were inspiring. I had many students stating that they want to learn how to jump like the Leopards. Their coach, Mike, was excellent when talking to our students about not only jumping, but about getting good grades so that they can achieve...."
Euclid Elementary School Principal Michael Sickels acknowledged recreation state wrestling champion Nicholas Leone, who had recently won the bantam division state champships in Trenton, NJ.
Sickels honored the top Trep$ Club achievers. Under the guidance of teachers Lori Bothe and Melissa Gyenes, club advisers, the school's business club teaches the students "product design, development, research, budgeting, marketing, and selling. They produce a product and sell it their peers. Sickels said local business people visited the club as guest speakers during the year. He noted all students were recognized at the school, and the top "earners," those who made a net profit of $25 were honored at the Board meeting.
