HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ - It was "back-to-school" for parents of incoming sixth graders at the Hasbrouck Heights Middle School (HHMS) on Wednesday evening.

Principal Joe Mastroprieto greeted parents and introduced the rest of the HHMS administration: Vice Principal Frank D'Amico, new supervisor of guidance Vincent Aiello, guidance counselor Kerrie O'Hagan, and district nurses Mary Neumann and Rita Perdomo.   Six current students help conduct a tour and shared why they love the Middle School.

"Our goal was to help the parents feel comfortable with their child transitioning to middle school," said Mastropietro. "We wanted to put their mind at ease about starting middle school, and to let them know that we see Middle School as a family."

The presentation covered academics, the new eight-period schedule, lunch, physical education, morning drop off, afternoon dismissal, afterschool clubs, safety, and other aspects of the Middle School to better help parents understand life in middle school.  The evening ended with a tour for parents, showing where the classes and lockers are located, and "to see how we keep our sixth grade students separated from the other grades in our school," said Mastropietro.

"I am really excited for our incoming sixth graders to start," said Mastropietro. "Based on seeing the students at move-up day, the town pool, and on sport fields, all of them have been an absolute pleasure to meet."

The incoming sixth grade class consists of 146 students from both Lincoln and Euclid Elementary Schools. The first day of school for Hasbrouck Heights is Wednesday, September 4.
