ROBBINSVILLE, NJ - Christina Vasquez is Wood-Ridge’s recipient of the NJSIAA Scholar-Athlete Award. Vasquez was the Lady Blue Devils' top runner on the girl’s cross-country team this season, finishing sixth the group championship meet and qualifying for the Bergen Meet of Champions, while still being a scholar outside the classroom.
“Christina is an outstanding individual, student and competitor and is extremely deserving of the scholar athlete award,“ stated Quinn Geragthy, the Wood-Ridge cross-county coach.
“At meets, she could be found doing homework/studying while waiting for her race to go off, displaying her commitment to being as successful as possible on the course/track and in the classroom. I’m very lucky to have gotten the chance to coach such a hard- working student athlete.”
Vasquez is planning on attending Drexel University in the fall, and will continue to compete as a member of the Dragon’s track team.
“I am honored to be chosen as this year’s scholar athlete,“ Vasquez stated. “I have loved being a Blue Devil and will never forget memories I have made. Although I was unable to experience my fourth and final year of track, I am so grateful for the experience and always having the most supportive team and inspiring coaches behind me.”
Each year, the NJSIAA conducts their Annual Scholar-Athlete Luncheon. Every school sends one representative to attend who has been selected as their scholar-athlete award winner. Because of the pandemic, the NJSIAA was forced to cancel this year’s event.
