RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Hasbrouck Heights’ senior Nick Bua has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to continue his cross-country career at Felician University, Felician head coach Elson Smajlaj announced Tuesday via press release.

Bua is a two-time All-North Jersey Interscholastic Conference Meadowlands Division performer for Hasbrouck Heights High School. He helped the Aviators win Division titles following the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

Bua is also a member of the indoor and outdoor track & field team for the Aviators, and plays travel soccer for the Hasbrouck Heights Soccer Association. At Felician, he expects to major in business administration.

“Felician is getting a very talented runner with unlimited potential,“ said Hasbrouck Heights cross-country coach Mike Ryan. “He is a credit and a huge part of all the things we accomplished the past three years here at Hasbrouck Heights.  I wish him all the best at the college level.”

“I am very happy for Nick,” said Hasbrouck Heights head track coach Rob Brady.  “We wish him the best of luck.”

"After several conversations with Nick and his father, our coaching staff was able to watch him compete at the 2019 state sectionals," stated Smajla.  "He has had a great career at Hasbrouck Heights, and we're looking forward to develop him at the Division II college level. I'm certain that he will put in the mileage in the off-season needed to get ready for his rookie campaign."

The 2019-20 NCAA signing period began on Nov. 13 and runs through August 1. A four-week dead period was put into place on Mar. 13 in response to the coronavirus pandemic, but Bua had returned his NLI to Felician the previous week.
