HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ - According to Hasbrouck Heights Cross-Country coach Mike Ryan, two of his graduating seniors will be getting opportunities to walk-on at their respective colleges next year, and he is confident that both will succeed in making their college teams.

Senior Joe Canavatchel will be getting a tryout at Manhattan College, while majoring in Civil Engineering. TK Kasper will be getting a shot a Kutztown (Pa) University.

"It was an honor to be offered to walk on and try out for Manhattan College’s Cross Country Team for Fall 2020," said Canavatchel. "Being a member of the Cross Country team in Hasbrouck Heights for four years allowed me the opportunity to grow stronger, more disciplined, and healthier as the years went on."

"Thank you, Coach Ryan and Coach Brady for believing in me and encouraging me to always do my best," he said, and noted that "Manhattan College offers strong academics and a great location in NYC which made it an easy choice for me."

“In my 20-plus years of coaching cross-country, I've never had a runner improve from freshman to senior year the way Joe (Canavatchel) did,“ Ryan stated.  “As a junior, Joe was a solid JV runner, and with six of the top seven returning, I never thought Joe would make the varsity team.  He did, and was in our top five multiple times.  He was huge reason why we won the Triple Crown.  Joe has just tapped his running ability and his best years are ahead of him."

TK Kasper will be getting a shot a Kutztown (Pa) University, where he will major in Computer Science.

"I had heard about Kutztown from Coach Ryan and when we visited the campus, I really felt like I belonged there," said Kasper.

"My time on the Cross Country and Track Team over the past four years has shown me that with hard work, persistence and dedication, I can achieve things that I never imagined were possible," he continued. "I am so grateful for everything Coach Ryan and Coach Brady have taught me and their endless support that helped build my self-confidence and made me a better athlete."

“TK (Kasper) will be getting a tryout this fall with my Alma Mater Kutztown University, which I am very proud of,” Ryan stated.  “Kutztown has a very strong program.  TK will have to work hard this summer to make the team, but there is no question, TK will do what he needs to make the team. He has the talent and work ethic and will help Kutztown University if he earns the opportunity.”
