WOOD-RIDGE, NJ - Seniors Jake Colon and Ryan Connelly each drove in five runs as Wood-Ridge defeated Wallington 18-1 in a NJIC Meadowlands game in Wood-Ridge on Friday afternoon. It was Senior Day, as the Blue Devils honored eight seniors playing their final regular season home game.
The Blue Devils jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first, with Connelly driving in two on a double as 10 Blue Devils came to the plate in the inning. They added five more in the second when Colon hit an inside-the-park grand slam to move the Blue Devils lead up to 12-0.
Senior Eric Drotos was on the mound for the Blue Devils, picking up the win, striking out three while allowing seven hits and one run.
The Blue Devils pounded out 18 hits, and drew five walks on the day. Seniors Lucas Leone and Anthony D’Amico each had two RBI, while Drew Packen scored four times for Wood-Ridge. The Blue Devils finished the regular season 18-6, 15-1 in the Meadowlands Division, and guarantees Wood-Ridge a tie for the Meadowlands Division championship. St. Mary is 13-1,and has two game remaining in the division.
The Gaels two remaining games left are against Saddle Brook and the completion of a suspended game against Hasbrouck Heights. St. Mary leads 6-1 when rain stopped the game in the third inning.
