HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ - Hasbrouck Heights head basketball coach Mike Cebulla has been busy this summer, working with the returning players in hopes of keeping the Aviators string of successful seasons going.

“We always give our players every opportunity to improve over the summer by playing in multiple leagues," said Cebulla.  “We;re working out on other days and we have kids who play football and baseball, so we find out who is committed to what we are doing right away by who shows and who doesn’t - even if they had football practice or a baseball game.”

Cebulla doesn’t know what the Aviators record is, or who the leading scorer is during the summer (although TAPinto Bloomfield noted Hasbrouck Heights beat Bloomfield 48-40 last week).  He did note, however, that his returning starters, Steven Faussette, Marcos Ochoa and Kunga Tsering have been playing with the consistency he had hoped.

“I don’t keep track of the record or points or anything in the summer,” Cebulla stated.  “I’m just mainly concerned with them playing hard.“

The summer is for laying the foundation for next year’s team, with only a few weeks of practice (if that) before the season starts.

“The summer is for competing and learning what it takes to win,” Cebulla said. “Summer is always great for the guys that coming from playing JV and possibly stepping into larger roles with the varsity. We have a few guys in that situation and I like what they’ve done so far.”
