NORTH ARLINGTON, NJ – What could have been one of those days turned out all right for the Hasbrouck Heights bowling team.

The team was late to Thursday's match, as the bus would not start when the team loaded at Hasbrouck Heights High School, leaving the school at 4 pm, when the match was scheduled to start at 4 pm.

Luckily, they were able to get to the lanes by 4:30, and with Becton only having two bowlers available, were able capture a 7-0 win over the Wildcats.

“Since Becton only had two bowlers, the pace was very fast,” said Hasbrouck Heights coach Dave Rispoli. “The boys had about half the time they normally do between frames, leading to a rushed feeling. The boys knew they'd win before we even got the lanes. (as Becton only had two bowlers). I was worried they would not bowl to their potential since there was nothing pushing them.  I told them they should try to bowl personal bests, a new high game or series.  At least bowl well enough to raise their average a pin or two.  It didn't work.  The rushed feeling and no competition left them feeling flat.

“Sean (Reyes) didn't look like himself at all,” Rispoli continued. “He was bringing the ball behind his back, and his release was not consistent.  Jake (Rozsa) was doing well.  Before the last game, Jake told me he just had to bowl a pin or two above his average to bowl his average for the day.  I said, " How about you end 2019 with a 200 instead."  He thought it was a good idea.  Jake and Sean lit it up the last game.  They were finally smiling and having fun by the 8th frame.“

After the break, Hasbrouck Heights faces Wood-Ridge in their first match back.

“It's a big match for us.” Rispoli stated.  “They have a good team and it can go either way because we are closely matched.  It will have an impact on our place in the standings.”
