NORTH ARLINGTON, NJ - Wood-Ridge battled back after losing the first game to capture the last two games and total wood with a 5-2 victory over St. Mary of Rutherford on Thursday in North Arlington. The match was crucial one for Wood-Ridge, who sit in fourth place just points behind St.Mary for third place in the NJIC Meadowlands Division.
Wood-Ridge bowled 17 pins below their average in the first games, and the Gaels were carried by Michael Hernandez 215 for the first game victory.
But the Blue Devils, who came in with a 595 game average on the year, bounced back strong behind a total team effort led by Nick Azzolini, who had high game in the final two games. After a slow start with a 127, Azzolini rolled a 188, edging teammate Joe Rose (183) and Nick Parmi (178) as the Blue Devils bowled 80 pins over their average in a 675-574 victory
The third game was more of the same. Azzolini bowled a 203, Rose a 182 and Parmi a 167 as Wood-Ridge rolled a 699 game on the way to a 699-598 win.
Dylan Clark, rolled a 422 series for Wood-Ridge, who have improved as a team tremendously from a season ago. Parmi finished with a 498 series, while Rose (514) and Azzolini (518) broke the 500 mark.
