EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - Hasbrouck Heights couldn't overcome a 13-2 run by host Becton in the second quarter as the Wildcats won the second annual South Bergen Holiday Tournament, 69-56, Friday afternoon at home.
Hasbrouck Heights Will Koukoutsis got the Aviators on the scoreboard first, scoring the first five points for a 5-0 lead. The Aviators would hold the lead throughout the first quarter and took a 16-10 lead into the second, as center Kunga Tsering scored six.
The teams traded baskets early in the second until the Wildcats went on a 13-2 run behind the three-point shooting of Al Benamevi, Nico Viso, and Robert Esposito. Becton took a 30-24 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Aviators drew within a point at 7:22 when Tsering went three-for-four on technical foul shots to bring the score to 30-29. But Becton outscored Hasbrouck Heights 17-9 in the third and put the game away in the fourth. Tournament MVP led Becton's Nick Mitarotonda with 21 points in the game.
Top scorers for Hasbrouck Heights were Tsering with 27, Steven Faussette with 10 and Will Koukoutsis and Jaden Castro with seven each.
