WOOD-RIDGE, NJ - It was a game of streaks. Some streaks good, some streaks, not so good. But that happens in rivalry games sometimes.
Steven Faussette had 14 points to lead all scorers as Hasbrouck Heights improved to 8-1 on the season with a 44-30 win over Wood-Ridge in a NJIC Meadowlands game. The Aviators improved to 6-0 in the Meadowlands. Wood-Ridge falls to 4-5 overall, and 3-4 in the Meadowlands. The Aviators will face off with Paterson Charter (7-0 in Meadowlands) on Tuesday evening in Paterson.
It looked like it was going to be Wood-Ridge's night at the start, as Trey Packen and Matt Dellapena hit three-pointers to give the Blue Devils a 6-0 lead two minutes into the game. But the Aviators defense stepped up, and the offense came to life, scoring the last 8 points of the quarter to take a 8-6 lead after a quarter.
Will Koukoutsis nailed a three and Faussette hit a layup to start the second quarter to give the Aviators a 13-6 lead two minutes into the second. Following a Liam Winslow basket for Wood-Ridge, Koukoutsis hit his second three, and Kunga Tsering scored inside to give Hasbrouck Heights a 10-point lead at 18-8.
Wood-Ridge battled back, as Stephen Crandall and Packen hit threes as the Blue Devils cut the lead to 22-16 at the half.
The third quarter was the Faussette show, as he scored the Aviators first 10 points, and picked up assists on two of Tsering's baskets to give the Aviators a comfortable 38-23 lead after three.
