HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ - It was bombs away for the Aviators on Tuesday night.
Senior Will Koukoutsis hit four first half three pointers, including three in a 17-0 run at the end of the first half that broke the game open, giving Hasbrouck Heights a 37-15 lead en route to 67-46 win over St. Mary in an NJIC Meadowlands boys basketball game on Tuesday evening in Hasbrouck Heights.
The Aviators held St. Mary scoreless over the final 4:55 of the first half as they blew the game open.
Koukoutsis started the spurt with a three pointer at the 3:24 mark remaining in the first half to extend the Aviators lead to eight, 23-15. Kunga Tsering then made a traditional three-point play, getting fouled while scoring down low and making the foul shot.
Mateo Ochoa scored down low to push the lead to 28-15 at the 2:12 mark. Jaden Castro hit a three pointer with 1:22 remaining before Koukoutsis closed out the half with two more three pointers, giving the Aviators a 37-15 lead.
Tsering finished with 20 points for the Aviators while Koukoutsis had 17. Steven Faussette added 12 for the Aviators, who led from 19 seconds into the game.
The Aviators improved to 15-3, 12-1 in the Meadowlands, and sit a game in the loss column behind Paterson Charter in the standings. The Aviators face Paterson Charter on February 20 in Hasbrouck Heights.
