EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - Hasbrouck Heights 2019 football season opened in the same place that the 2018 season ended, MetLife Stadium.  This time, on Wednesday, instead of playing Butler for the first-ever North Group 1 Bowl Championship, they were scrimmaging Ridgefield Park in a 7-on-7 passing scrimmage.  The linemen took part in drills on the other side of the field.

Ron Kistner and Bob Salerno, who walk to all away games during the regular season, even walked to the MetLife to take in the action.

“The weather certainly is a little warmer than the last time we were here, “ said Kistner.

The day was part of a day of activities sponsored by www.playbookkids.com, an organization that “helps match parents with the best programs in New York City and then make it easy and affordable to attend.  (Playbook) only works with the top 5% of programs who have a long-term track record of providing exceptional experiences to families.”

While Hasbrouck Heights and Ridgefield Park took one half of the field, two club 7-on-7 teams played on the other side.  Later, youth football and youth soccer teams were ready to replace the Aviators and Scarlets when their time was done.

The Aviators will host their own 7-on-7 tournament Saturday morning at Depken field starting at 10 am.  The tournament consists of 12 teams, broken into two six-teams pools, with the top two teams in each pool advancing to a playoff.  Last year the Aviators beat Wood-Ridge in the semi-finals of the tournament, before defeating Park Ridge in the finals.

The Aviators and Owls would meet again, in the first round of the NJIC Bowl Championship, as both teams were coming off unbeaten regular seasons. Hasbrouck Heights was victorious, 30-14.
