SECAUCUS, NJ - The New Jersey Interscholastic Conference announced Tuesday a new divisional alignment for the 2020 football season, which allows schools that are struggling in football to play in a less competitive setting against teams in similar situations.

The conference created the Union Division, which was accidentally leaked last week when discussing a potential Palisade Park/Leonia/Ridgefield ‘tri-op’ program for football at the NJSIAA meetings.

Schools joining the Union Division will play each other, but will be ineligible for the NJIC Playoffs and the NJSIAA playoffs.   It was also stated that teams were not bound to the league for more than a season, and teams could join if they felt their program needed a "re-set" due to low turnout, heavy graduation losses, or other factors.
