WOOD-RIDGE, NJ - Wood-Ridge bounced back from their opening week loss to Park Ridge with a convincing, 31-8 win over Weehawken in Wood-Ridge on Friday evening.  The win evens the Blue Devils record at 1-1 in the Patriot Division. Weehawken falls to 0-2.

“We played well tonight, “ said Wood-Ridge head coach Charlie Trentacosti. “We needed to bounce back, and we did. We are a good football team.  We just need to play like we can play. This is one win. Now we have to do the same thing next week.”

The Blue Devils got off to a quick start, taking advantage of a Weehawken turnover to get on the scoreboard first.  Daniel Rios recovered a fumble by Weehawken on a Christian Chao punt. The Blue Devils drove the ball down to the Weehawken 3-yard line before a bad snap moved the ball back to 30-yard line.  After an 18-yard gain placed the ball back on the 12, freshmen kicker Kyle Reiter kicked a 29-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead.

Wood-Ridge took a 9-0 lead on the second play of the second quarter, as Isaiah Walker broke a 54-yard run around the left side of the Weehawken defense with 11:41 remaining in the first half.  Reiter’s kick failed.

The Blue Devils scored once again on their next possession, as quarterback Nino Iacovino hit Nico Giglio to put the ball down on the Weehawken three-yard line, and then Iacovino ran it in from three yards away to give the Blue Devils a 15-0 lead.  Reiter’s kick was good, and the Blue Devils had an 16-0 lead.

The Blue Devils defense scored next, as the snap sailed over the head of Weehawken quarterback Sean Guerriero into the end zone.  Guerriero was able to escape the Wood-Ridge defense, but the Indians were flagged for an illegal block in the end zone for a safety and a 18-0 Blue Devils lead.

Giglio returned the ensuing free kick to the Weehawken 14 yard line. Three plays later, Iacovino hit Michael Sarlo in the end zone for a five-yard pass with 2:07 remaining in the first half, and a 24-0 lead.

After a scoreless third period, Wood-Ridge scored it final points in the fourth when Walker scored his second touchdown of the game, on a three yard run, for a 30-0 lead.  Reiter's kick was good.
