SECAUCUS, NJ -  It is a good year whenever a cross-country team gets two runners on its All-Division team.  When it comes from a first-year program, it is remarkable.

That is what Wood-Ridge's Christina Vazquez and Callie Negro accomplished this season, in the Lady Blue Devils first opportunity to compete in girls' high school cross-country in 25 years.

Coach Quinn Geraghty sang the praises of his runners.

"First off, Christina and Callie are two very hardworking runners, and are extremely coachable and enthusiastic, no matter the difficulty of the workout, Geraghty stated. "So that enabled them to drop their times nicely over the course of the season and end up becoming two of the better runners in the league."

"Plus the fact that we are a brand new program, it was big for the team overall to have a couple first team all league representatives," Geraghty continued. "It gave their teammates the sense that being a top runner in the league is possible, and gives them something to work towards"
