HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ - The Hasbrouck Heights Lady Aviators trounced Wallington, 15-0, playing through a slight rain on Tuesday, capturing their second straight NJIC Meadowlands Division Championship. The Lady Aviators improved to 20-3 overall and 14-0 in the NJIC Meadowlands. The back-to-back titles are the only softball titles in Hasbrouck Heights High School history.
A nine-run second inning gave the Aviators a 14-0 lead, and pitcher Olivia Marinelli allowed Wallington just one hit, fanning 10, while walking three and hitting a batter in picking up the win.
Senior Kimmy Halpin homered and drove in two runs, and sophomore Elizabeth Connelly added a pair of RBI and junior Alexa Marinelli drove in three runs to lead the Lady Aviators attack.
The Lady Aviators return to the field, weather permitting, Thursday afternoon against New Milford in the opening round on the NJSIAA North 1, Group 1 playoffs at 4:15 at Hitchcock Field in Hasbrouck Heights.
