PATERSON, NJ - Paterson Charter jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back, defeating Hasbrouck Heights 66-38 in the North 1, Group 1 boys basketball Semi-Finals Friday evening at Paterson Charter High School. The Lions advance to play Cresskill Monday evening.
Paterson Charter will play Cresskill for the North 1, Section 1 title Monday evening at 7 pm at Paterson Charter. Cresskill advanced to the final by defeating Boonton, 52-44 on Friday evening in Cresskill.
Hasbrouck Heights got on the board with a Will Koukoutsis basket at the 4:06 mark. Marquise Harris responded to make the score, 9-2, before Steven Faussette hit a three pointer and a driving layup to cut the lead to 9-7.
Harris responded, making one of two foul shots and then two consecutive three pointers, followed by Sadiki Miller hitting a third three-pointer, propelling the Lions to a 19-7 lead at the end of one quarter.
After a Faussette basket made the score 19-10, Paterson Charter went on a 13-0 spurt to open up the lead to 32-10. Jamar Belfield had six in the run, while Harris had four.
Kunga Tsering knocked down two foul shots for the Aviators to stop a 4:45 scoreless stretch.
The Lions led 24-10 at the half and 47-26 at the end of three quarters.
NOTES: Miller had 19 points to lead all scorers for Paterson Charter, while Harris added 10. Faussette had 14 to lead the Aviators, while Castro added 12. Hasbrouck Heights, who beat Wood-Ridge and Wallkill Valley to get to the semi-finals, finishes their season 20-8.
