WOOD-RIDGE, NJ - Construction began this week on replacing the turf football field at Donna Ricker Field behind Wood-Ridge High School.
According to Marc Sinclair, Wood-Ridge High School Athletic Director, the turf was installed in 2008 and was 11 Years old. It was damaged in certain areas and in need of an upgrade. The project is estimated to be complete by late December. The track will be resurfaced and painted but will remain the same size, he noted.
"We are excited to have the support of Mayor Sarlo and Council for these projects as they always put the kids and the community members first," said Sinclair.
Wood-Ridge's Donna Ricker field hosts numerous sports teams throughout the year. These include the high school's football, baseball, softball, track, girls and boys soccer teams, recreation football, soccer, and track programs, and summer rec program. This year's Turkey Bowl, annually hosted by Board of Education president Albie Nieves for adults, students, and alumni, was canceled due to the construction.
