WOOD-RIDGE, NJ - Wood-Ridge High School's Angela Picheo has signed a letter of intent to continue her soccer career at Elms College for the 2020-21 school year.

The College of Our Lady of the Elms, referred to as Elms College, is a Catholic liberal arts college located in Chicopee, Massachusetts, near Springfield, Massachusetts.

“I chose Elms because it feels like home away from home,” said Picheo, “I felt like I was a part of the family the second I stepped on campus. They also have an amazing nursing program on top of having an amazing women's team. My recruiting process had a lot of ups and down, but I believe all that had to happen because without those setbacks I would have never found home.”

“I am so excited to be attending Elms in the fall,” stated Picheo “The school, the nursing program, the coach, and the girls are amazing and I can't wait to be a part of such an amazing school and soccer program.”

Wood-Ridge High School girls soccer coach Jerry Cala commented on her signing.

"I am very excited for Angela that she will be continuing as a student athlete at Elms College.  Coach Milbier is getting a first class goalkeeper.  More importantly, he is  getting a first class young lady.  Over the last four years, Angela has made a lasting impression at Wood-Ridge.   She was a four- year varsity starter as well as a team captain for two years.  She leaves our program as the all -time saves leader with 758.

"I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity that I had to coach her.    She is the type of player that every coach needs in their program.  She was fully committed to our program and was a leader, on and off the field.  I really enjoyed the time we spent together over the last three seasons.   It was exciting to watch her develop as a goalkeeper.  Angela is very technically sound and very good at distributing the ball with her feet.  These are two reasons why she is ready to play collegiate soccer.  I will miss Angela dearly.  She will always have my love and support.  Once a Blue Devil, always a Blue Devil.  Now, our program will be rooting for the Blazers!  Angela, on behalf of the Wood-Ridge High High School Girls Soccer program,  'Good luck and continued success."

Cala reflected on her career at Wood-Ridge.

“My favorite match of Anglea's took place in her junior year, on September 11, 2018.  We played Elmwood Park on a very muddy surface at Pomponio Field.  Field conditions made for a very physical and sluggish affair.  A Steph Turi goal us a 1-0 lead in the first half.  Elmwood Park  found the equalizer in the 60th minute, making it a 1-1 game.  Victoria Drotos, a 9th grader at the time, scored in the 68th minute, giving us a 2-1 lead.  For the remaining 12 minutes of this match, EP dominated possession and had six shots on goal.  Angela was able to turn away all six shots, securing a 2-1 victory for us.  All six of her saves were ridiculous.  She pushed one shot over the crossbar.  Two other shots were low and denied by her fully extending her body, making very technical diving saves.  She finished with 14 saves on the day.  This game served as an example of how a good high school keeper can leave their mark on a match.  This is one of many good memories that I have of Angela.  This game stands out because it solidified our position for the States.  Elmwood Park went on to have a really good season.  Also, this game helped us get off to our best start An program history"
