WOOD-RIDGE, NJ The Knights of Columbus Saint Anthony Council #11585 will host the 2020 Soccer Challenge on Friday, September 18 at on Donna Ricker Field at Wood-Ridge High School.  The contest wlll begin at 8:00 p.m.

This second annual event is open to children in any town, ages 9 to 14. The age determined will be as of September 1. Proof of age is required. 

In the 2019 inaugural event, Wood-Ridge sophomore Victoria Drotos captured the state title for her age group.

The Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge is a competition designed for players to demonstrate the most basic soccer skill – the penalty kick.  Athletes in high school are advised to check with their school athletic directors or their state high school athletic associations regarding possible eligibility conflicts. 

Participants compete in their own age group by gender and will be given 15 penalty kicks at a goal with 5 scoring zones. Points will be awarded based on the scoring zone through which the ball passes. Winners will advance to the regional level.

Pre-register players by emailing Ben Walsh at benwa_w@yahoo.com with the following information:

  • Child’s name,
  • Date of Birth,
  • Address,
  • Name of a Parent/Guardian, and
  • Phone number.

Complete the official entry form, and print out and bring a signed completed entry form along with proof of age (birth certificate) to the event.
