HAWTHORNE, NJ - Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery it is said. In that case Debbie Harry--or better known as "Blondie"--will have plenty of flatterers at this year's Hawthorne Day, as the borough announced a look-a-like contest will be held in honor of the hometown star. Hawthorne Day is entering its tenth year and has been scheduled to be held on Saturday, September 22, at the area of the municipal pool and bandshell along Wagaraw Road.
Harry was born in Miami but grew up in Hawthorne and graduated from Hawthorne High School in 1963. She remains active in the music industry and has appeared in a number of films since her entertainment career began in the late 1960s. As the lead singer of "Blondie" she rose to international prominence in the 1970s and 1980s with hits such as "Heart of Glass," "Call Me," and "Rapture".
Those interested in entering the Blondie look-a-like contest may sign up at the Hawthorne Day festival between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the information booth. The contest itself will be held at 4:30 p.m. at the Borough Bandshell.
