Fatal Crash on Lafayette Avenue Saturday Night

HAWTHORNE, NJ - A statement from Hawthorne Police Chief Richard McAuliffe and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office today announced that Kasey Checke, 49, of Ramsey was killed in motor vehicle accident Saturday night.  A collision between a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle and a 2017 Jeep Wrangler took place in the area of the Wells Fargo Bank on Lafayette Avenue at about 9:44 p.m.

The Hawthorne Police Department and Passaic County Prosecutor's Office are currently investigating the collision with the assistance of the Passaic County Sheriff's Department.  MICU arrived on the scene within minutes of the reported collision.  Mr. Checke was pronounced dead at about 10:13 p.m. and his unnamed female passenger was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson, presently in critical condition.

The driver of the Jeep Wrangler was reportedly uninjured.

The authorities have announced that they will release further information as they can, but also appeal to the public for further information, encouraging them to contact the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office at 1-877-370-PCPO, or by email to tips@passaiccountynj.org, or contacting the Hawthorne Police Detective Bureau at 973-427-1800.
