HAWTHORNE, NJ - On Tuesday afternoon, members of the Hawthorne community banded together yet again to raise money and awareness for resident Diane Vigilanti who is fighting a battle with metastatic breast cancer. Despite the August heat, friends of the Vigilanti family set up a lemonade stand and tea light fundraiser at one of their homes.
Diane has been part of the Ponte Crew Moms' group and befriended many other Hawthorne moms over the past three years. She and her husband Vinny have a reputation of always looking out for others. Now, their friends have committed to doing what they can to pay it forward and help Diane during her time of need.
Also present at the fundraising stand were faculty from Roosevelt Elementary School, including teachers and secretaries, as well as students. The students are friends of Diane's oldest son, Brody, and understood that their actions were helping their friend's mother cancer recovery. They were all determined to show their continued support, calling out to passers-by to stop and donate. Friend Amanda Marshall and her daughter, Gabriella, shared that they were happy to be there today. Gabriella said, "I just want Diane to feel better."
In solidarity, officers from the Hawthorne Police Department also showed their support by stopping by the home to purchase tea lights, as well as Mayor Goldberg. The children were awestruck when the mayor arrived, knowing that his presence symbolized the whole town's support.
Organizer Amanda Lupino was excited to share that the overall fundraising has been successful up to this point, but Diane is still in need of more funds. She explained that they would be setting up more stands over the next few weeks leading up to the event, set to take place on August 26. Residents are able to message her via Facebook to purchase their bags and tealights, priced at 3 for $5.00.
Money raised from the sales of the tea light, bags, and lemonade will be going to help the Vigilanti family pay for ongoing medical bills towards Diane's cancer treatments and radiation for her hip and spine. Funds will also be allocated towards a new apartment for this loving family of four. Payment can be made via Venmo to @roospto50 with "Light Up Hawthorne" written in the comments section, while cash is also accepted.
