Hawthorne Goes to the Polls Tuesday - A Voters' Primer-For-The-Primary

HAWTHORNE, NJ - Borough residents who are registered Republicans or Democrats should have noticed that they recently received sample ballots in the mail for the Tuesday, June 6, Primary Election.  In order to better understand who the candidates are as voters head to the polls, TAPinto Hawthorne offers this primer-for-the-primary.



Brian D. Goldberg Line A - Passaic County Conservative Republicans – a West Orange resident and construction executive.  Goldberg unsuccessfully ran in the 2014 Senate primary against Jeff Bell to face Corey Booker.

Bob Hugin Line B – Passaic County Regular Republican Organization, Inc. – a former US Marine, managing director for JP Morgan, and CEO of pharmaceutical company Celgene Corp.  Hugin has spent over $7.5 million on his campaign.

Lisa A. McCormick Line G – Democrats for Change – owner of CMD Media, advocates “radical progressive change.”

Robert Menendez Line H – Passaic County Democratic Organization, Inc. - incumbent US Senator, has served since 2006 and sits on the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs; Committee on Finance; and formerly on the Committee on Foreign Relations.  In 2017, he was brought to trial on corruption charges.  Although the judge declared a mistrial, the senator was severely admonished by the Senate’s Select Committee on Ethics. 



Eric P. Fisher Line D – running unopposed among Republicans, the Fort Lee resident ran in the 2017 Republican primary election for Congressional District 37, defeated by Modesto Romero.

William O. HenryLine G – Democrats for Change – a Paterson resident and pastor, Henry recently obtained his Masters in social work from the Ramapo College of New Jersey.

Bill Pascrell, Jr. – Line H – Passaic County Democratic Organization, Inc. – incumbent US Representative for the 9th Congressional District and native of Paterson.  Pascrell obtained his BA in journalism and Masters in philosophy from Fordham University and served in the US Army and US Army Reserve.  He has served as an Assemblyman and was the mayor of Paterson from 1990-1997.  He sits on the Committee of the Budget and the Committee on Ways and Means. 



Ronald S. Fava – Line B – Passaic County Regular Republican Organization, Inc. – the attorney is a native of Paterson, former Assemblyman, a judge, and former Passaic County Prosecutor.  He served as acting Passaic County sheriff in 2001.

Vivienne M. Erk Line C – Republicans Making America Great Again – A West Milford resident, served the West Milford First Aid Squad, Zoning Board of Adjustment, Heritage Committee, and West Milford Republican Organization.  Erk is part of 5th Congressional District candidate Steve Lonegan’s team.

Danielle Ireland-Imhof – Line H – Passaic County Democratic Organization, Inc. – a resident of Hawthorne, Ireland-Imhof is the Borough Administrator for Prospect Park.  She is married to Louis Imhof, Clerk to the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders.



Gary L. PassentiLine B – Passaic County Regular Republican Organization, Inc. – from Clifton, Passenti is a school board member.

Lori Mambelli – Line B – Passaic County Regular Republican Organization, Inc. – Totowa resident, NJ Certified Public Manager, obtained her Masters in Administrative Science from FDU, and an EMT.  She recently retired after 25 years as a high-level sheriff’s officer.

Francesco Pietropaolo – Line B – Passaic County Regular Republican Organization, Inc. – Wayne resident, recently condemned Freeholders Akhter and Bartlett for allegedly campaigning on Memorial Day.

Pamela A. Herbig Line C – Republicans Making America Great Again – Herbig is a resident of Ringwood.

Constance A. Hernandez – Line C – Republicans Making America Great Again – Hernandez is a resident of Ringwood.

Joan Barnwell – Line C – Republicans Making America Great Again – Barnwell is a resident of Wayne.

Cassandra “Sandi” Lazzara – Line H – Passaic County Democratic Organization, Inc. – incumbent Passaic County Freeholder Director, Sandi Lazzara was born in Paterson and lives in Little Falls.  She was elected to the Board of Chosen Freeholders in 2016.  Lazzara obtained a BA in Human Ecology from Montclair University and an M.Ed in Adminstration and Supervision from William Paterson University.  She worked as a teacher and in other capacities for the Woodland Park Board of Education.

Assad Akhter – Line H – Passaic County Democratic Organization, Inc. – he is the Director of Community Outreach for the St. Joseph’s Healthcare System and a resident of Paterson.  He was formerly the Deputy Chief of Staff for Congressman Pascrell.  Akhter is the Chairman of the Law and Public Safety Committee of the Board of Chosen Freeholders.

John Bartlett – Line H – Passaic County Democratic Organization, Inc. – an attorney from Wayne, Bartlett is the Chairman of the Public Works Committee of the Board of Chosen Freeholders.  He was first elected a Freeholder in 2012.  Bartlett earned his Bachelors with honors from Brown University and was a Raoul Wallenberg Scholar at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem prior to graduating Harvard Law.  Bartlett Passaic County’s representative on the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority.


In addition to these positions, candidates are running for the Republican County Committee in their respective Wards and Districts in Hawthorne.
