HAWTHORNE, NJ - The Hawthorne Police and Fire Department responded to a school bus which caught fire early Wednesday evening on Rea Avenue between 1st Avenue and Goffle Road.  The bus was transporting children at the time the fire broke out, but all the students and the driver were safely evacuated without injuries.  White smoke could be seen coming from under the rear of the vehicle.  Firefighters on the scene extinguished the flames.

"There was a small fire towards the back of the bus.  It looked like the rear brake line might have leaked onto the drum," Hawthorne Fire Chief Joseph Speranza told TAPinto Hawthorne.  "It was a scare for the kids but, fortunately, nobody was hurt."
