Hawthorne Sundevils Midgets Defeat Oakland and Little Ferry

Hawthorne Midgets finished up their regular season, beating Oakland 3-2 and Little Ferry 11-1.

Playing against first place Oakland, both teams were held scoreless in the first period.  With 6 minutes left in the second period, Tommy Korpics scored, assisted by his sister Julia and Derek Payton.  Matt Kymer scored with less than 2 minutes, assisted by Zoe Raposa.  Oakland came back in the third period scoring five minutes into the period and with five minutes remaining. With 13 seconds remaining, John Kenworthy scored the winner.  Kevin Tancos made 11 saves in goal for the win.

Little Ferry won the first two meetings, but Hawthorne owned Little Ferry.  Hawthorne first period goals were scored by Zack Soder, Mike Moster and Ronan Dunn, assists going to Tancos, Dunn, Moster, Tommy Korpics and Stephen Daidone.  Hawthorne scored twice in the second, goals by Payton and Soder, assists going to Ella Sachs, Kymer and Kevin Jacobs.  Little Ferry scored late in the second period.  In the third, Hawthorne added six goals by Ryan Ross, three by Soder, Payton and Kenworthy with assists going to Tencos, Jacobs, Daidone, Tommy and Julia Korpics, Kymer and Raposa.  Max Hiza had 12 saves in goal.  Hawthorne’s young team ended the regular season 10-5-1, currently in first place, with two games in hand.  Playoffs begin in late February.
