The Chain That Saved the Colonies will be the topic of a PowerPoint presentation by Donald (Doc) Bayne on Tuesday, June 5th at 1:30 p.m.  During the American Revolution, the Continental Army contracted with Peter Townsend’s Sterling Iron Works for the manufacture of a “Great Chain.” Come and learn about the role this chain played in saving our fledgling nation. Doc is the foremost authority on the Great Chain and President of the Friends of Sterling Forest. A Tuesday Talks for Seniors program, this event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Registration, which is now underway, is open to all area residents.

The Readers Kaffeeklatsch book club will meet on Tuesday, June 12th at 1:30 p.m. to discuss Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate. Pat Dugger will lead the discussion.

All borough residents are encouraged to attend a Flag Day Ceremony on June 14th starting at 6:30 p.m. The program will include a welcome by Mayor George, the presentation of colors and pledge of allegiance by members of Boy Scout Troop #170, the National Anthem sung by Ray Dijon, addresses by Troop Committee Chairman Jim Corbo and Scout Master Frank Dvorak, a flag retirement ceremony, and the playing of taps. Following the service, dessert and coffee will be served compliments of the Friends of the Library.  Registration is now underway.

Crafty Ladies are invited to make Fourth of July Votive Candle Holders with Miss Ro on Tuesday, June 19th at 1:30 p.m. All supplies will be provided. Register early!

Join Miss Susan for a trip to The New York Botanical Garden on Wednesday, June 20th.  We’ll meet at the library at 9:00 a.m., board a transit van, and head for the City. Accompanied by Mario Medici, licensed NYC tour guide, we will Walk ‘n’ Talk our way through the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden as well as other seasonal exhibits. Our van will pick us up at 3:00 p.m.; we should arrive home by 4:30 p.m. Cost per person, which is $60 for members of the Friends and $70.00 for the general public, covers the van, admission, and driver’s tip. Lunch is on your own. Due to limited seating, priority for registration will be given to members of Friends. Payment in full is required to reserve a seat. Walk ‘n’ Talk is co-hosted by the Friends and the Library Board of Trustees.  In-person registration begins June 1st.

Yankee Doodle Dandy will be shown on Tuesday, June 26th at 1:30 p.m. Released June 6, 1942, this “oldie but goodie,” stars James Cagney as George M. Cohan and features

patriotic songs such as Yankee Doodle Dandy, You're a Grand Old Flag and Over There. A Movies Worth Watching presentation, this event is sponsored by the Friends. Seating is limited, so early registration is advised.

Chair Yoga with licensed yoga instructor Gianna Wozney, will be held on Thursdays, June 28th-August 2nd from 7:00-8:00 p.m. A fee of $30.00 is required to reserve your place. Funding for Chair Yoga is provided in part by the Friends and due to space limitations, priority for registration will be given to members. In-person registration begins June 1st.
