HAWTHORNE, NJ - A Paterson man driving a blue 2007 Honda CRV was arrested on September 8, charged with driving while intoxicated and careless driving, according to the Hawthorne Police Department.  When police received a report at approximately 9:50 p.m. of a motor vehicle accident involving the mentioned vehicle, the officers arrived and found the Honda up on the sidewalk on Wagaraw Road.  The driver of the car was sitting on a guardrail and said that he had swirved to avoid hitting an animal.

The police asked where he came from, to which the driver replied Fairfield, then changed it to Wallington, and then said Fair Lawn.  Police say he then said he had come from a wedding reception and "may have had three beers and wine".  The driver was unable to successfully complete field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest, released pending a court date.
