PROSPECT PARK, NJ – The Borough of Prospect Park announced that it is unrolling a new emergency notification system for residents and businesses, encouraging them to enroll.

“When an emergency strikes, public safety officials need a way to reach residents with life-saving information quickly. Which is why Prospect Park residents are being urged to sign up for an emergency notification service called, CodeRED as there are many ways to do it online and mobile,” Instashan Chowdhury, Borough Administrator said.  “The CodeRED system allows Prospect Park officials to effectively reach residents and personnel by using the system’s capabilities to send telephone calls, text messages, emails, mobile app push notifications and social media posts to inform residents and better protect life and property.”

There is also a CodeRED Mobile Alert app for smartphones.  This app can be downloaded for free through the App Store or Google Play.  Doing so “allows Prospect Park residents and visitors to receive emergency, missing person and community alerts via push notifications directly to their iPhone and Android devices.”  Mayor Mohamed T. Khairullah said that this would “serve as an additional tool to help inform the community and visitors about important information that may impact their safety… The app works similarly to our current CodeRED system.  If you have the app downloaded and are in an affected area of the alert, a notification will be sent through the app to alert you of the issue.”

Among the community notifications that could be sent out are evacuation notices, missing persons/children, natural disasters, advisories to boil water, bad weather warnings, criminal activity alerts, road closures and traffic alerts, lockdowns, and other borough notices.

Khairullah urged residents and businesses are visit the website and register their contact information.  “The more residents who actively register online and download the CodeRED Mobile Alert app, the better able we are informed about emergencies and town happenings.”

Those resident who have further questions are asked to contact Intashan Chowdhury, Borough Administrator at 973-790-7902 x 532 or by e-mail chowdhuryi@prospectpark.net.
