HAWTHORNE, NJ - According to a statement from Hawthorne Police Chief Richard McAuliffe and Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, police responded to an incident in Hawthorne Thursday, at approximately 8:47 p.m., by the intersection of Lafayette Avenue and Llewelyn Avenue. James Waldron, 40, of Hawthorne, was driving a 2013 Subaru Impreza and was "involved in a collision with a pedestrian", according to the statement. The pedestrian was listed as Ronald Vanslooten, 82, of Upper Saddle River, who suffered serious injuries and was transported to St. Joseph's University Hospital in Paterson.
When the police responded, both Lafayette and Llewelyn were temporarily blocked off to traffic. Mr. Waldron reportedly suffered no physical harm and remained on scene.
The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office says the investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it is available.
