League Responds to #MeToo Report With Organized Change Effort

December 31, 2019

To the Editor:

Recent reporting from the Star Ledger (#MeToo Was Supposed to Fix Things) offers detailed accounts of political and government settings where women suffer sexual harassment and assaults in silence for fear of political and professional retribution. Nobody should be fearful of harassment, assault or retribution most especially when working in the governmental setting. Local ...

JoAnn Fitzsimmons "I am proud to be a lifelong resident"

I write to you this night of December 30, 2019, to thank you for your support and votes during these past elections in our borough. I ran on the Republican Line in Ward 1. I want to thank my family, friends, the Goldberg Team and everyone who made calls, walked with me, attended functions and mostly voted for me. I lost but I won. I won because I was able to meet so many new residents in our ...

Gov. Murphy Unveils Ethics Reforms During Visit to Rutgers

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - Gov. Phil Murphy said he and his staff have been practically building a shrine around a fine bottle of bourbon he received as a gift.

Here's the sobering truth, though: Murphy and his fellow executive branch employees are exempt by state law from taking one drop, let alone accepting any gifts that are related to their public duties.

"We are in the process of ...

Love Means Never Having to Say You’re Sorry

Every sappy romantic can recall that moment in the movie, Love Story, when, after an argument, Oliver told Jenny he was sorry and through her tears she quivered and replied, “Don’t … love means never having to say you’re sorry”.

Anyone who has ever been in a loving relationship understands the point of that statement – unconditional love doesn’t ...

The Heart of a Friendship

To have a friend and be a friend is what makes life worthwhile. ~Unknown

February is the month of the heart, the time when we celebrate love. We buy chocolate, flowers, jewelry, and greeting cards to profess our undying love to that special someone. But, in all the hoopla of the season, perhaps we forget to honor the affection provided by the people that sustain us and enable us to thrive ...

The Adults in the Room

My house was recently designated as being “teen free”.

This is because my youngest two children just turned 20. They are twins. They are both in college, away from home. I only physically see them when they come home on breaks.

Turning 20 means they have run out of youthful brand names. After spending a lifetime transitioning from infants to toddlers to kids to tweens to teens ...

LIV and Let LIV

Sunday is the big game.

And I’m not talking about the Impeachment Bowl, where the Democrat Donkeys in blue face the Republican Elephants in red in Washington’s Gridlock Stadium to play out some unsportsman-like sign stealing controversy committed during the 2019 Ukranian World Series.

No, I am talking about the acronymical championship, the NFL event that pits the best of the ...

The Ancient History of Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day is widely known as the day of the year when love is celebrated, and indeed, February has been a month of romance for centuries. The St. Valentine’s Day we observe today evolved both from ancient Roman and early Christian history.

There are many legends about who St. Valentine was. One story dates from the third century A.D. Apparently, Emperor Claudius II of Rome ...
