HAWTHORNE & PROSPECT PARK, NJ - National Night Out will seek to turn out residents in both Hawthorne and Prospect Park with their respective celebrations Tuesday, August 6.
At the Boro Bandshell, the 4th Annual Hawthorne National Night Out, hosted by the Hawthorne Police Department, kicks off at 5:30 and musical performances will begin at 7:00. The event ends at 9:00.
In Prospect Park the event enters its third year and will be hosted on North 10th Street between Brown and Planten Avenues. It will run from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and wrap up with a showing of "The Incredibles 2" at the Prospect Park School Number 1 playground at 8:15. Lawn chairs and blankets are encouraged.
National Night Out is described as "an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances."
"The Borough is pleased to once again participate in ‘National Night Out,’ an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make Prospect Park safer, and a more caring place to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while continuing to sustain a sense of community in Prospect Park," Mayor Mohamed Khairullah said. "The Council and I encourage all Prospect Park residents and business owners to stop by and join us in this fun-filled, family-friendly, evening of companionship and activities.”
Both the Hawthorne and Prospect Park National Nights Out are free to the public.
"The purpose of this event (which is observed across the United States) is to bring together the Police Department, Fire Department, local social providers, business and the community for a night of food, fun, and entertainment," a statement read. "Attractions include live music and entertainment, bouncy houses, movie night among other entertaining and enjoyable activities. Assorted vendors will be selling a variety of food and merchandise goods."
