HAWTHORNE, NJ - Mayor Goldberg released his second letter of the week, found below:
As of this morning there are 459 total cases, with 20 fatalities and 6 active cases in the Borough. While the active numbers are down since my Monday letter, we removed 6 cases yesterday but added 2 cases this morning. People have asked whether there is a link between the cases, and I am told no. There is a wide range in ages and there doesn’t appear that there is a place or person among the active.
The County continues to offer free testing throughout the County as well as at-home tests. The next testing in Hawthorne isn’t scheduled until early October, but if you check the County website, you can find testing nearby. The Borough website has a COVID-19 section that links directly to the County for information.
The Borough is staffed every weekday, and the building is open by appointment, but if you need to get in touch with someone at the Borough after hours or on a weekend, I invite you to reach out by email. Please go to the Borough website www.hawthornenj.org and search in the top right for Staff. The directory will show our email addresses.
Please remember that the Borough has a non-perishable food pantry that is available to those in need. Please call our Health Department for more information. Again, in order to keep the virus in check we must wears masks, keep social distancing, and wash hands often.
Please continue to support our restaurants and other retail. Have your hair done, get a manicure, or buy a cupcake. We must support all of our local businesses.
This week we visited all of our outdoor dining restaurants to reeducate them on the rules during the pandemic. However, you are just as responsible as the proprietor for your behavior.
Stay safe and check on your elderly family and neighbors. Continue to show what a caring community we are. We are Hawthorne Strong.
Mayor Richard Goldberg
